Rumin Zhang (Chief Scientific Officer)
Dr. Rumin Zhang is the current Chief Scientific Officer at the Global Health Drug Discovery Institute (GHDDI). Dr. Zhang has over 19 years of drug discovery research experience at Schering-Plough, 7 years as team leader at Merck, and 7 years of senior management in three small biotech companies.
Dr. Zhang is trained as a biochemist, biophysicist and pharmacologist and is an experienced drug hunter in diverse disease therapy areas. He is a champion for a unifying drug discovery paradigm that emphasizes both binding kinetics (BK) and pharmacokinetics (PK) in achieving safe and efficacious pharmacodynamics (PD), or BK+PK=PD. He is an expert on high-performance, high-throughput and translational assay design, deeply quantitative in all levels of pharmacology. He has run numerous modeling and simulations to assess target druggability, BK/PK/PD translational modeling, and quantitative formulation and testing of therapeutic hypothesis. He is a contributor of 16 preclinical candidates and a well-published scientist with 17 patents and over 60 peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Zhang graduated from Wuhan University in 1984 with a degree in Microbiology. He was admitted to the Graduate School of the Institute of Microbiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and was selected as a CUSBEA (China-US Biochemistry Examination and Application) predoctoral fellow. He obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the State University of New York in Buffalo in 1990.
