Open Rank Scientist, Infectious Disease  

Key Responsibilities

  • The duties of this position will involve supporting and/or leading a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative therapeutic drugs for infectious diseases such viral infections caused by HBV, DENV and ZIKV, SARS-CoV-2, et al.

  • The candidate will use in vitro HTS assays to identify innovative drug hits and animal models to evaluate the efficacy of hits and the mechanism of action of these hits.

  • The candidate will work both independently and collaboratively in a matrixed environment to design, execute, interpret and communicate biological studies for one or more projects utilizing good scientific judgment and strong team skills.


Minimum Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in appropriate discipline required (e.g., biochemistry, virology, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology).

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply biology and cellular pharmacology knowledge and skills to design and execute biochemical and in vitro cellular experiments involving the evaluation of small molecule modulators.

  • Develop and validate a variety of cellular assays to understand the target of interest and characterize small molecule inhibitors/activators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, develop and validate quantitative mammalian cellular assays to address the project team’s mechanistic and functional needs.

Investigator and above, Microbiologist and project lead  

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead drug development team/projects of anti-TB and other infectious disease areas in discovery to preclinical stages to reach critical G0/NoGo decisions, milestones and deliverable goals.

  • Participate and play a key role in disease biology for strategy and plan set up, collaboration with global partners, and evaluation of external opportunities.

  • Work closely with medicinal chemistry, structural biology, and DMPK teams to identify and promote promising hits through discovery and development stages.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experiences in pharmaceutical industry or CRO in the field of antibacterial drug R&D is preferred. The experiences in leading project team in industry is highly appreciated.

  • Have a broad and deep understandings of cutting-edge technologies and challenges in anti-microbial, particularly TB, drug discovery and development.

  • Have oral and written English communication skills to meet the requirement of this position.

  • Be capable of working in and contributing to an interactive and multidisciplinary team environment.

Scientist/Investigator, Biology  

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for genetic manipulation with Mycobacterium and/or other bacterial pathogens, developing phenotypic assays and HTS for antibacterial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be able to handle large data sets including DNA/RNA seq, NGS assembly, omics data such as proteomics, PDB, etc.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write reusable, testable, and efficient code based on project requirement and existing source code

Minimum Requirements

Investigator and above, Medicinal Chemistry  

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the medicinal chemistry activities of one or more small-molecule drug discovery projects at target validation, hit to lead or lead optimization stages.

  • Work together with core team members across multiple disciplines to design and implement project strategies for the advancement of projects leading to the identification of high-quality preclinical candidates.

  • Independently design biologically active molecules and conduct SAR studies to meet the project goals; design synthetic routes and lead the internal or external chemistry team in the synthesis and characterization of drug candidates for the projects.

  • Work with computational chemistry group to develop structure-based target molecules for projects.

  • Proactively communicate project strategy, critical issues and recommendations to enable appropriate resource decisions.

  • Provide supervision, scientific mentorship and technical training of the team members.

  • Maintain excellent communication across internal and external team members.


Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in chemistry or related discipline.

  • A minimum of five years of experience in medicinal chemistry required; candidates with demonstrable hands-on small molecule drug discovery and pre-clinical development experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry highly desired.

  • Strong track record of individual and team-level contributions to the discovery and pre-clinical development of small molecule clinical candidates supported with high impact publications, oral presentations and patent applications.

  • Excellent background and expertise in organic chemistry with a high level of synthetic skill including novel route design is essential.

  • Demonstrated project leadership experience in leading all stages of small molecule drug discovery with the ability to define strategy and critical decision making.

  • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with members of the research and management teams in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.

  • Experience in leading and collaborating with chemistry teams from CROs is a plus but not required.

Scientist/ Investigator, Computational Chemistry  

Key Responsibilities

  • Homology modelling and refinement.

  • Assist target validation.

  • Perform virtual high throughput screening and prioritize top compounds for experimental tests.

  • Guide hit-to-lead and lead optimization.

  • Develop novel methodologies to tackle challenging but important problems to better support CADD effort.

  • Work closely with medicinal chemists, structural biologists and other functionalities in the institute.


Minimum Requirements

  • PhD degree in Computational Chemistry with a record of demonstrated productivity.

  • Minimum 1~3 years of experience with structure-based drug design and 3 years above experience in pharma company is a plus.

  • The candidate must have good communication skills to work in a collaborative team environment. Oral and written skills in English are preferred.

  • Scientific integrity is a must, candidate should be professional in maintaining lab notebooks and electronic files.

Artificial Intelligence Research Scientist/Engineer  

The artificial intelligence group of Global Heath Drug Discovery Institute (GHDDI) is looking for experienced algorithm researchers and engineers in the area of artificial intelligence and data science.

  • AIDD (AI for Drug Discovery) is a newly established division, aiming to revolve and accelerate drug discovery process with leading-edge artificial intelligence technologies.

  • GHDDI identifies and develops innovative approaches to novel medicines for diseases most damaging to populations in the developing world.

  • As the first international independent, not-for-profit research institute in China, GHDDI also pioneers China’s path to a more collaborative future in the sciences.

  • The candidates will have an exciting opportunity to prosper global health with technology and make people’s life better.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply deep learning methods (classification, regression, ranking, recommendation, as well as graph neural network, semi-supervised learning, reinforcement learning and Bayesian network) to internal drug discovery projects.

  • Explore novel AI-based algorithms for small molecule drug discovery.

  • Build the multifunctional AI enabling platform to help expedite drug discovery process.


Minimum Requirements

  • Majored in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or equivalent field, MS or PhD desirable.

  • Experienced in at least one of the following fields: traditional machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, knowledge graph, computational chemistry, bioinformatics.

  • Experienced with programming languages: C or C++, Python.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Action oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong research and publication record.

  • Experienced with at least one of the following deep learning frameworks: Pytorch, Tensorflow, Theano, Caffe/Caffe2.

  • Strong oral and written skills in English.

  • Experience with drug discovery research is a plus.
