Manchun Lu (Chief Operating Officer)

Dr. Manchun Lu joined GHDDI in July 2016 as the Acting Director (Head) of Operation and the Secretary of the Board, and now is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Institute. She worked on GHDDI’s initial setup and has been responsible for the administrative, finance, HR, legal, IT, communications and other operational functions as well as external engagement, to support R&D activities and ensure a smooth operation of the Institute.

Manchun has diverse experience in business and management, scientific R&D, and NGO operation. She previously worked at Abbott Laboratories, China (Regional Head of Business Economics and Market Strategy), McKinsey & Co, Teach For China (an educational NGO) and Affymetrix Inc. (Product Development Scientist).

Manchun was trained as a chemist. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Peking University, and a Ph.D. Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton University on single molecule sequencing. Manchun also has an MBA degree from the Anderson School of Management, UCLA.
